Ljubljana, 8 January 2008

The Arts Festivals' Declaration on Intercultural Dialogue has been signed by major European arts and culture festivals in Ljubljana on 8 January 2008.
25 festivals and officials from 17 European countries signed the Ljubljana Declaration and committed to its objectives and obligations.
300 delegates, officials, press and representatives of civil society were invited to assist the launching event at the Ljubljana Castle. Thanks to a fruitful cooperation between the European Festivals Association, the Ljubljana Festival, the City of Ljubljana, the Cultural Ministry and the European Commission, the ceremony offered a valuable platform for the launch of the festivals' activities throughout 2008.
From Ljubljana, the Declaration travels to hundreds of arts festivals across Europe and beyond!
Ján Figel', European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth was one of the initial signatory parties in Ljubljana. He applauds the Declaration agreeing with the statement that "European arts festivals initiated a vital process of circulating and giving visibility to the different cultural streams of European arts and cultures thus representing a huge step toward the development of intercultural competences."
