International Ankara Music Festival
A music festival organized in the Turkish capital presenting classical music and ballet programmes, as well. The programming offers a real diversity of historical and contemporary repertoire.
This festival has been an EFA member since 1993.

History
In 1993 the 10 year old International Ankara Music Festival became a member of the EFA. The International Ankara Music Festival is not only the festival of the capital of the secular Turkish Republic, but also the festival of the cultural centre of the modern Turkey. It is in Ankara, where the first music, ballet, theatre schools and institutions, the first symphonic orchestra, conservatory and opera of the country were established.
At present, Ankara has four universities where music is taught, four symphony orchestras, two ballets, one opera and many chamber music ensembles and theatres. The International Ankara Music Festival established by the SCA Music Foundation in co-operation with the ministry of culture receives material support from the government and the municipality of Ankara; it also receives contributions from the foreign cultural missions in the country. It is sponsored by companies and private individuals.
The SCA Music Foundation, established under Turkish law as a public institution, was created in 1973 by a music-loving couple, Sevda and Cenap, founders of the Kavaklidere Wines Co. of Ankara. Since its establishment, this foundation has played an active role in the integration of the European music and values into the culture of the country. The International Ankara Music Festival aims to present to its audience the best examples of the European music, the major orchestras, ballets, musical ensembles, maestros and soloists of the world; it also aims to promote Turkish musicians and works by the Turkish composers. Many premieres of new works have been included in its programs. Each year master classes have been carried out by guest musicians and artists from the musical institutions of the capital.
The International Ankara Music Festival takes place every year in spring and lasts approximately one month. The planning of the festival is organized by a festival committee formed by members of the foundation and the representatives of the festival contributors. The recently formed volunteer committee of the foundation assists in the promotion of all its activities.The balanced programs of the festival include performances of symphonic and chamber orchestras, recitals, ballet, choral music, dance, jazz and traditional Turkish music.
Since the beginning of 1994, the International Ankara Music Festival is under the patronage of the president of the Turkish Republic.
