Israel Festival, Jerusalem
The Israel Festival - Jerusalem is the major international cultural event in the country, bringing together for a few weeks each spring a selection of the most exciting performing arts productions from all over the world, as well as the best of Israel's own talent. The programme reflects a wide cultural reality, which spans continents and time, and ranges from opera to symphonic music, chamber music to recitals, traditional to experimental theatre, classical to contemporary dance, ethnic music to jazz and rock. Throughout the Festival, the public is also able to enjoy a large selection of free performances including children's shows, street theatre, music recitals and a nightly jazz club.
This festival has been an EFA member since 1966.

History
Founded in 1961, the Israel Festival Jerusalem is the most prestigious international cultural event in the country. Traditionally held from late May until mid-June, the Festival presents a selection of some of the most exciting performing arts productions from around the world, as well as the best of Israel's own talent. The programme reflects a wide cultural reality aimed to appeal to all ages and sectors of the population, and ranges from opera to symphonic music, chamber music to recitals, traditional to experimental theatre, classical to contemporary dance, ethnic music, jazz and rock.
Throughout its history, the Festival's goal has been to promote artistic encounters crossing all political and national boundaries. The Festival undertakes to introduce the public to emerging forms of art, and has been a prime-mover in exposing Israeli audiences to world music, multi-media, and new forms in theatre and dance. It also encourages collaborations between Israeli artists and their colleagues from abroad, and consistently presents world and Israeli premieres in music, dance and theatre.
Alongside the main Festival programme, is a fringe programme including free children's theatre, jazz and world music performance. Even though the Festival is centred in the country's capital, a number of performances are also scheduled elsewhere in the country, generally in Haifa and Holon.
