Administration
Union of European Theatres
Founded in 1990, UTE is a network of art theatres from all over Europe and
of individual artists. It aims to contribute to the European construction
and citizenship through collaboration among different forms, languages
and generations of theatre makers. It organises a big itinerant festival:
The European Theatre Party, international debates, a summer academy
and co-productions, and promotes mobility of theatre performances and
artists as well as intercultural dialogue.
This festival has been an EFA member since 1999.
Festival Programme
Each EFA member manages its own Calendar. In case there is no programme availabable for this year, please visit the festival's own website.
History
The Union des Théâtres de l’Europe was created in March 1990 at the initiative of Giorgio Strehler. Its goal is to contribute towards the strengthening of the European Union through the arts and the theatre, and to create a common cultural movement that breaks through barriers of language.
Today the UTE consists of twenty member theatres.
In 2005, its festival took place in Rome between September 24 and October 23. In 2006, this annual event took place in Frankfurt from April 21 and May 7.
This year, in autumn, Turin will host the 16th festival of the UTE.
