fmx - Festival de México
In the early 1980s, a group of people concerned about the deterioration of Mexico City’s Centro Histórico founded the Asociación del Centro Histórico, A.C. Their goal: to rescue the city centre by mobilising governments, the private sector and citizens toward organising cultural activities in temples, churches, convents, streets and plazas. And so the Festival de Primavera, or Spring Festival, was born, later known as the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico.
This festival has been an EFA member since 2007.
Festival Programme
Each EFA member manages its own Calendar. In case there is no programme availabable for this year, please visit the festival's own website.
History
In the early eighties, a group of people concerned about the deterioration of Mexico City’s Centro Histórico founded the Asociación del Centro Histórico, A.C. Their goal: to rescue the city center by mobilizing governments, the private sector and citizens toward organizing cultural activities in temples, churches, convents, streets and plazas. And so the Festival de Primavera, or Spring Festival, was born, later known as the Festival de México en el Centro Histórico.
Today, 26 years later, the Festival caters to a broad range of public interests, thanks to the diversity of its events and its undeniably modern hallmark that refuses to lose sight of its beginnings.
A perfect space for festivals, the historic downtown area is ideal, where thousands of people come to enjoy popular multi-disciplinary events.
Since its creation, the Festival has had three names: Spring Festival of Mexico City (1985 - 1987), Mexico City Historic Center Festival (1988 - 2002) and Mexico City Festival at the Historic Center. All those names were thought since the beginning as a transition which would lead to the last one: FMX - Mexico's Festival.
