Sochi Winter International Festival of Arts

In February 2012, within the Winter International Arts Festival in Sochi leading Russian and foreign artists of different genres: musicians, artists of theatre and cinema actors, opera and ballet soloists will gather for the fifth time.

The programme of the Festival-2011 contained also a number of sports events, charity programmes and special cultural events, among which were the European video-art exhibition and competition, dedicated to environmental protection, the Festival of Animation for children, retrospective of films by outstanding Spanish producer - Carlos Saura and many others.

In 2012 the Fifth Winter International Arts Festival in Sochi will take place from 3rd till 16th of February, the programme is very rich; the list of participants is unprecedented, among them are: the Ballet under the guidance if Andris Liepa – one-act ballet performances “Russian Seasons”, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, famous Serbian filmmaker, a two-time winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes - Emir Nemanja Kusturica, one of the oldest puppet theatres in the world “Carlo Colla e Figli” (Italy, Milan), “Louvre Soloists” Ensemble, State Symphony Orchestra “Novaya Rossiya”, “Moscow Soloists” Chamber Ensemble and many other superb Russian and foreign artists.

This festival has been an EFA member since 2011.

History

Let us bring to your attention one of the most important cultural event in Russia - the Winter International Arts Festival in Sochi.

The festival was founded in 2007 in the capital of XXII Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, by the leading concert management company «Russian Concert Agency». Yuri Bashmet, Sochi 2014 Ambassador, is Artistic Director of the Festival.

Over the past four years, many Russian and international artists have joined the celebration of the arts on the Black Sea coast. The long list of globally renowned performers includes Valery Gergiev, Vadim Repin, Renaud Capuçon, Oleg Maisenberg, Denis Matsuev, Alexander Melnikov, Sergey Krylov, Wu Man, Giovanni Sollima, Massimo Mercelli, Alena Baeva, Alexander Buzlov, Nino Katamadze, Jacques Loussier Trio, Berlin Baroque Soloists, the ballet stars of the Bolshoi Theatre Ilze Liepa and Andrey Merkuriev, the stars of Mariinski Theatre Ulyana Lopatkina, Irma Nioradze, Andrey Batalov, the ballet soloists of Berlin State Opera Mikhail Kaniskin and Elisa Cabrera.

The Grammy Award Winner of 2008 Chamber Ensemble "Moscow Soloists" and State Symphony Orchestra "Novaya Rossiya" (New Russia) are the resident orchestras of the festival.

Growing in size every year and developing the programmes, our festival is offering to local and regional audiences the outstanding selection of events and unique opportunity to meet the wide range of arts. From the 2007 the festival has presented the different programmes of classical music, jazz, opera, classical ballet, drama theatre, popular music, cinema as well as the exhibitions of audio-visual arts, and jewellery.

The Festival is organised with the financial support by the Government of Russian Federation, Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation, The Organizing Committee of Sochi 2014 and Administration of Sochi City.
