Nordic music festivals meet in Reykjavik from 5-7 October 2011

Stockholm, Wednesday, 28-09-2011

A conference of music festivals called "Nordic-Baltic Festival Meeting" will take place from 5-7 October in Reykjavik/Iceland at Harpa, Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Centre. The conference is the first of its kind and its participants come from the Nordic and Baltic countries. Representatives from each country present their country‘s various festivals and the purpose of the conference is to strengthen ties and investigate further co-operation between festivals as well as being educative and informative.

The main speaker is Franz Patay from Vienna who has managed some of Europe’s largest cultural projects, including the Mozart’s 250th anniversary celebrations in Austria in 2006. He has conducted research into the social and financial benefits of these projects and will speak about the research and their effects and the future perspectives on art.

The Minister of Culture, Svandis Svavarsdottir, will open the conference.

At the conference, one representative from each country will speak about the festival situation in their countries. 10 representatives from Icelandic music festivals will take part in the conference. The conference is supported by the Nordic Culture Fund and is held in conjunction with the Nordic Music Days, also taking place in Harpa.
