international literaturfestival berlin: After the festival is before the festival

Berlin, Tuesday, 03-11-2009

After the festival is before the festival. The team of the international literaturfestival berlin (ilb) is currently preparing the 10th edition, with the focus on Eastern Europe. It will take place from the 15th to the 26th of September 2010.

Initial talks about the programme have begun with authors from Eastern Europe who have been guests in previous editions of the festival as well as with local Eastern European cultural institutes and embassies.

The 2009 international literature festival received very pleasing resonances from authors, guests, and media (also in the Arabic world).

In the follow-up, the ilb calls attention to its publications and other interesting journals: the new Berlin anthology »Wenn ohne Grund die Nacht schön ist« (When the Night is Beautiful for no Reason) and the catalogue of the 9th festival. Furthermore, two wonderful journals which are devoted to promulgating Arabic literature in the German and English-speaking worlds have dedicated their last editions to the ilb: the Lisan, edited by Hassad Hamman, No. 8/2009, with contributions by thirty authors from the Arabic-speaking world who were guests at the ilb; the London-based Banipal No. 36 which the publisher Margaret Obank and her »Deputy Editor« Samuel Shimon (both guests at the last ilb).
