49th Estoril Lisbon Festival

7 July 2023

Summer | 23 June to 28 July

Autumn | 11 November to 9 December

Lisbon has a vast heritage spanning more than five centuries, rich in history and architectural beauty, which has gradually been included in the festival due to various anniversaries celebrated in recent years.

In 2023, the Estoril Lisbon Festival starts two new cycles with complementary characteristics: “Portugal in the European Renaissance” and “Festival along Lisbon”, where more palaces and churches increase the story of the city.

Francisco d’Holanda and Damião de Góis, outstanding personalities of the first magnitude in the world in the XVI Century, are examples through the similarities and differences of Portuguese music from the 500th with those of Spain, Italy and Flanders. The ensembles Ars Lusitana, Cupertinos and Vocal Ensemble combine their repertoires with the world premieres of commissions from Miguel Diniz and João Caldas, based on the relationship of Francisco d'Holanda with Michelangelo and Italy, and of Damião de Góis with Erasmus and Flanders.

In this spirit, two symbolic “Concerts for Peace” with the Ukrainian pianist Antonii Baryshevsky are included; German, Spanish and Italian Romanticism; the Organ Cycle and the premiere of "Florbela Porter", a “meeting” of composer Nuno Côrte-Real with the Portuguese poet Florbela Espanca and the musicians Cole Porter and George Gershwin…

The festival is not locked into the past; it is continually opening up to the future, always presenting new music and young talents awarded in several competitions.

Welcome to Lisbon! Welcome to Estoril!
