The 3-day programme also offers an insight into the artistic and cultural life of Belgrade. “2013 is a year that looks ahead to what we hope will be a recovery of the financial challenge that hit many countries heavily and brought up critical voices on the EU integration process. At the same time, the claims for more Europe, for a joint narrative for Europe, joint actions, and a better understanding of why festivals matter, become louder,” underlines SEFA President Biljana Zdravkovic. “We are honoured to receive the EFA delegation in Belgrade and we look forward to a fruitful exchange on topics that are key to the European cultural sector.” Special attention will be given to the role of festivals within the European Year of Citizens 2013. The 2013 CAMM in Belgrade will be the opportunity to explore opportunities of involvement in the civil society initiative Cultural Coalition for a Citizens’ Europe. “There is a clear need to establish a new understanding of the power that the arts have on citizens, and to develop a new value system that addresses the impact of the arts in public space, a vocabulary that goes beyond the economic impact,” stresses EFA President Darko Brlek. Participants will discuss how national festival associations can contribute to this understanding. The [http://www.efa-aef.eu/newpublic/upload/efadoc/8/CAMMProgramme%20and%20venues_external.pdf]3-day programme will also bring together artistic festival directors to discuss joint artistic projects in the frame of the EFA FestLab. In particular the showcases prepared by festivals from Serbia (such as the Guitar Art Festival which will run at the time), the opening night of the Bitef Dance Company, as well as the performance of the No Borders Orchestra, an initiative launched in October 2012, will be inspiring highlights. The EFA delegation will be joined by the members of SEFA as well as festival leaders from the region and across Europe. The meeting takes place at the invitation of the Serbian Festivals Association (SEFA) and the Belgrade Music Festival BEMUS (produced by Jugokoncert), with the support of the City of Belgrade (Secretariat for Culture) and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, under the patronage of Ambassador Vincent Degert, and with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia.
