New on Festival Bytes: What does an image sound like?

I.M. Klif is one of the most recognisable and most interesting names of the Croatian new media art scene. His continuous artistic work on the "borders of genres", his questioning of possibilities offered by media, as well as his open approach ensured him a prominent place in contemporary visual arts. He has been dealing for many years now with exploring the relationships between sound and image and their manipulation. This multimedia artist has graduated at the School of Audio Engineering in Amsterdam. His interests include kinetic, light and video installations, and occasionally performance. Whether he is working with sound, light or video image, he is constantly constructing a closed ambient which, over time, became more and more complex, from his early light ambients of the 1990s to software-controlled installations. He is also collaborating with other artists and musicians, such as the band ABOP (After Is Better Than Party). His work was exhibited at many solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. In his latest site-specific installation Untitled (Biennale, 2013), commissioned by Music Biennale Zagreb, Klif continues his already initiated audio-visual exploration of basic elements of image and sound. The idea started with the question - how to generate image from a sound wave, in other words, what does an image sound like? The new ambient installation, made of eight circularly arranged speakers and two projections, functions within a mutually dependent relationship of the two senses - the auditory and the visual. The sound installation is in its fundament far removed from classic principles of music and composing, it is a visual composition and a spatial impression of the image of sound. One week after the exhibition opening we invite you to the MBZ Artist Talk at the &TD Theatre Café Bar, where Karla Pudar, the curator of the exhibition, will present Klif's work and himself through an interview with the artist, and discuss with him some interesting things about the local young artistic scene.
