Apply now for Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre’s Georgian Showcase 2015

13 April 2015

In 2009, the TBILISI INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF THEATRE introduced Georgian Showcase as one of the central programmes of the Festival with the aim to promote Georgian theatre and its integration within the global cultural network. Georgian Showcase is one of the most important platforms in Georgia’s theatre landscape for international exchange. It is an opportunity for Georgian companies and artists to build new relationships, create co-productions, tour and exchange artists, while for international guests it means a discovery of new possibilities for their future programming plans. The deadline for applications for the 2015 Showcase, taking place 5-8 October, is 15 July.

In the 6 years since its launch, Georgian Showcase has hosted 307 international guests from every continent, from more than 25 countries with 205 performances in total. From the very beginning, Georgian theatre emerged to be a subject of interest for international guests: invitations to different festivals and co-productions with various companies emerged. As a proof of the Showcase’s success, the festival is delighted about the latest results: three Georgian theatres were invited to the 6th Beijing Theatre Olympics in 2014.

The Georgian Showcase Programme unites theatre, new writing; movement and contemporary dance - new experiences and creative forms of making theatre. The annual festival presents a diverse selection of the most recent performances from Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and regions.

The programme consists of two parts, the Main and the Off Programme. Performances for the Main Programme are carefully selected by the Georgian Section of the International Critics’ Association. The programme will give you an insight into Georgia’s vital, innovative, challenging theatre landscape. The festival aims to build a new international profile and foster new collaborations.

The Georgian Showcase is open for festival and theatre managers, critics, programmers, journalists, curators and artists – anyone interested in new experiences will be welcomed to the showcase.
