Krakow committed to the EFFE Seal and Festivals for the Climate Initiative

28 July 2023

Krakow is a proud signatory of the EFFE Seal for Festival Cities and Regions, a project co-initiated by the European Festivals Association (EFA) and seven cities in Europe. Krakow is one of these cities, and as such takes its commitment to culture, art, heritage preservation, and national heritage seriously. Striving to promote excellence in organising festivals, the city undertakes numerous initiatives to support cultural, ecological and human development.

The city has published an e-catalogue of best practices, launched under the "Festivals for the Climate" initiative. The catalogue gathers inspiring actions taken by diverse festivals, aimed at environmental conservation, sustainable development and social inclusion. By sharing these practices, Krakow contributes to global efforts in combating climate change.

Furthermore, the city has announced a call for applications for the realisation (financed by municipal funds) of outstanding cultural festivals. This competition aims to select remarkable festivals that embody the 10 characteristics outlined in the EFFE Label application. The EFFE Label is Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals showing their engagement in the field of the arts, community involvement and international openness. It was set up by EFA in 2017.

Through these initiatives, Krakow emphasises its dedication to fostering and supporting exceptional cultural events that are not only artistically valuable but also environmentally and socially conscious. Our goal is to continue our creative approach to the festival experience, elevating its quality and creating events that inspire, educate, and unite our community.

The city of Krakow is a source of inspiration for cities, regions and countries that wish to embark on a journey towards a splendid festival future, filled with culture, art, and national heritage!
