Berliner Festspiele celebrate three jubilees in 2011

2 March 2011

Today, 2 March 2011, marks the beginning of the celebrations for the Jubilee Year 2011 – WE ARE CELEBRATING of the Berliner Festspiele. In 2011, the festival celebrates: 10 years at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, 10 years of Artistic Director Joachim Sartorius and 60 years of the Berliner Festspiele. 2011 – WE ARE CELEBRATING Under the title 2011 – WE ARE CELEBRATING the Berliner Festspiele will be commemorating three separate anniversaries: Since 2001 they have been able to perform in their own theatre – the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The same year marked Joachim Sartorius’s appointment as Artistic Director, transforming an established West Berlin institution into a modern and many-sided organization with exciting artistic programming from all around the world. And last but not least the Festspiele are also 60 years old: 1951 saw the first ever Berliner Festwochen, for which the Berliner Festspiele are still renowned today. From today new stories will be published every week about 60 years of the Berliner Festspiele, 10 years of Artistic Director Joachim Sartorius and 10 years at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele. The festival will present curious incidents, beautiful experiences, significant events and tragic situations from six decades of Berlin’s cultural history. In a video clip Artistic Director Joachim Sartorius himself looks back and invites to the Jubilee Celebrations on 27 August 2011 at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
