"In Search of Solidarity": European Photo competition by PES Group in EU Committee of the Regions

Within the framework of the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, the PES Group in the Committee of the Regions (CoR) is launching a photo competition for young Europeans aged 18-30, entitled In search of solidarity.

Young amateur photographers are asked to put together a photo documentary comprising 3 to 6 images from their cities or regions, illustrating initiatives taken to help the most deprived sections of the population, thus contributing to the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
The photo competition aims to promote a society which supports and improves quality of life, social well-being and equal opportunities for all. It will close 30 September 2010.

The jury, consisting of members of the PES Group in the CoR – representing local and regional authorities across the EU - and professionals from the world of photography, will select the three winners. The public will also be able to select a fourth winner via an on-line vote on the PES Group's website, which will run from 3 to 10 October.

All winners will be invited to Brussels in November to attend a seminar on combating poverty in Europe, during which they will be awarded one of a number of substantial prizes comprising professional photographic equipment.

The first prize of the competition is a complete full frame DSLR kit, comprising a camera body, 2 single lenses, a flash and external memory card, worth 3,500 €.
