L'Histoire du festival
The organisation of the Miskolci Operafesztivál Public Benefit Company was founded in 2000 in Miskolc, Hungary. The founding directors (Péter Müller Sziámi, Árpád Jutocsa Hegyi, Gergely Kesselyák) had the idea to create an annual International Opera Festival for the Eastern European public with a focus on Béla Bartók + another internationally acknowledged composer (it was Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, W.A. Mozart and Tchaikowsky in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and will be the artist of the Bel Canto in 2005). The main objective is to become a “Gateway to the East” by offering a geographically convenient and constant venue for the best opera performances in Central-East Europe every year (in particular by performing and promoting the full scale of Bartók’s music written for the stage).
This year for the fifth time will be organized the “Bartók +…” International Opera Festival, Miskolc. In 2005 besides Bartók’s works appears the works of the composers of the Bel canto (Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini).
This year we have invited great artists like: Andrea Rost, Bernadett Wiedemann, Renato Bruson, Roberto Frontali, Roberto Scandiuzzi, László Polgár, Enzo Capuano, Al Di Meola; magnificent conductors like: Pier Giorogio Morandi, Josè Cura, Marco Balderi, Zoltán Kocsis, János Ács; illustrious ensembles like: Mariinszkij Theatre Saint Petersburg, Helikon Theater Moscow, Santa Cecilia Academy Rome, Mendelssohn Hochschule Leipzig, Salzburg Marionette Theatre, Slovak National Theatre Bratislava, Croatian National Chamber Theatre Zagreb, Hungarian Radio Symphonic Orchestra and Choir, King's Singers.
