Aspendos International Opera & Ballet Festival
The Aspendos Opera & Ballet Festival makes significant contributions to Turkey’s international promotion by bringing together the extraordinary acoustic of the 2,000-year-old Aspendos Antique Theatre with the nature of art that reaches beyond the boundaries of language, religion and race.
The Aspendos International Opera & Ballet Festival, the only opera and ballet festival in Turkey, has been the most important organisation of the Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet.

L'Histoire du festival
Dear Art Lovers,
Every year, the approaching summer months arouse a different kind of excitement storm in the world of Opera and Ballet as the days of the most renowned festivals are going to be enjoyed. The Opera and ballet enthusiasts are able to add an artistic moment of peace and happiness to their lives while following the most outstanding performances of the most refined arts created by mankind; whether in a garden or a park or in an amphitheatre, as Aspendos, encountering its audience under the sky, in an ambience with reflections from the depth of history. This artistic enthusiasm is felt even more intensively at the venues on the Mediterranean coast, where the mild climate allows these artistic nights to come true.
However, I do not think that any of the other outdoor venues are as suitable as Aspendos Theatre, for the display of performing arts, equipped with facilities providing such merry moments to its audience. Aspendos is the most preserved and acoustically suitable theatre for performing arts, among ancient theatres all over the world, Therefore, it has obtained its well deserved recognition among its peers, within a short period of time,. The State Opera and Ballet has the honour of realizing the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, which is a considerable reason for the recognition and good reputation of this theatre. This year, in addition to our pride, we also share a very unique excitement of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the enactment of the Law of State Theatre and Opera, ratified by the Turkish National Assembly on 10 June 1949, coinciding with the inauguration of our 16th Festival.
On the 60th anniversary of the establishment of our Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet, which hosts a world wide renowned festival, we look forward in pride and hope, encouraged by the success, achieved in a short period of time.
