Festival Internacional de Música y Danza 'Ciudad de Úbeda'

Although the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza ‘Ciudad de Úbeda’ is a classical dance and music festival, it is also the stage for jazz, flamenco and ethnic music concerts, as well as for activities for a younger public. The Festival also holds a Feria de la Música (Music Fair) with concerts being celebrated in the different squares and enchanting corners of the old historic centre of the city.

L'Histoire du festival

These are some of the groups and soloists who have participated in the sixteen editions of the festival:
An excellent group of singers and orchestras includes Victoria de los Ángeles, Berganza, Caballé, Krauss, Carreras, Scotto, Arteta, María Bayo…; big orchestras including the Orquestas Nacional de España, RTVE and those of the Andalusian region. Another big group of foreign orchestras include the Dresdner Philharmonie, BBC Philharmonic, Radio Munich, Montecarlo, París, George Enescu, Ensemble Orquestal de París, New Japan Philharmonic, The Frankfurt/Oder Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Odense, Symphonic Radiotelevision Orchestra of Moscow, The National Symphonic Orchestra of the Ukraine… Other, smaller orchestras include I Musici, Europa Galante, Bariloche, Petite Bande, The Sixteen, The King´s Consort, Collegium Vocale Gent, Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin.
Ballet groups who have performed in Ubeda include the Compañía Andaluza, Nacho Duato, Víctor Ullate, Sara Baras, Ballet Nacional de San Petersburgo, Nacional de Ucrania, etc.
Furthermore, some important people are associated with the festival, including K. Pendelezcki, Fabio Biondi, Gustav Leonhardt, Trevor Pinock, Alicia de Larrocha, Achúcarro, Badura Skoda, Bashkirov Harry Chistophers, Dimitri Kitaienko, M. Viotti, Lucas Pfaff, Alexander Rahbari, Antoni Ros Marbá ,Erich Bergel, Frans Brüggen, John Nelson, Frühbeck de Burgos, Herreweghe, García Asensio, Max Bragado, Elisabeth Leonskaya, Orfeón Donostiarra, Libby Crabtree, Antonio Florio and other young artists including Nebolsin, Yerokin, The Swingle Singers, Félix Ayo, Leonidas Kavakos, Mariana Sirbu, Shlomo Mintz etc.
There have been also important activities of jazz performances including J. Loussiers and Chick Corea, flamenco performances by Paco de Lucía, Mercé, Morente, C. Linares… and concerts especially dedicated to children.
