Festival Ljubljana 2011 ultimate events – tickets already available

For the 59th time, Festival Ljubljana has done its best to make the summer at the Slovenian capital a memorable cultural treat. This year's festival will open on July 3 with more than 1000 musicians performing at the refurbished Kongresni trg.
Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand will be conducted by the charismatic Valery Gergiev, who will direct the Slovenian and the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestras, numerous choirs from Slovenia and Croatia, and eight internationally-renowned soloists, including Sabina Cvilak with her beautiful soprano voice.
Several excellent concerts, ballets, operas, theatre pieces and a musical will follow. Events especially worth mentioning include the performance by the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala , conducted by the world-famous Daniel Harding, the theatre play entitled Twiglight of the Gods, directed by the exquisit Tomaž Pandur, and the three nights featuring the Lithuanian State Opera – first with Verdi's Othello, then the concert of arias with Joseph Calleja and, to conclude this year's festival summer, the ensemble will perform The Jewess, the opera by Halévy.
Ballet fans will have the pleasure of seeing two original ballets by Boris Eifman – Onegin On Line and Don Quihote, and the ballet triptych performed by the Béjart Ballet Lausanne including Ce que l'Amour me dit (What Love is saying to me), L’Oiseau de Feu (The Firebird) and Bolero.
The summer will also bring to you Hair, the famous musical, The Russian Cossacks, Al di Meola, Gilberto Gil and many more.
