On Going Digital

25 May 2018 @ Tallinn

In the frame of the EFA-Pearle* Synergy Partnership under the RISE 2 project another two workshops were conducted this time on “going digital”.

The first of the workshops - “Going digital: when technology meet live performance!” - gave an insight on concrete issues experienced by theatres and other venues when cooperating with scientific institutions on new technologies with the aim to get an artistic added value in a live performance (an example of the theatre lab: sound capturing or speech to text and automatized translation technology). To help discuss these topics Heidi Wiley (Executive Director of the European Theatre Convention) presented the specific case of the “European Theatre Lab – Drama Goes Digital” and Jonathan Thonon (project coordinator at the Théâtre de Liège) sent in a video illustrating their experience with the “IMPACT - International Meeting in Performing Arts & Creative Technologies” project.

The second workshop “How to set up and manage a digital archive” focused on building up and managing digital archives. To illustrate the challenges, obstacles and opportunities when building up a digital archive Madeline Ritter (managing director of the agency diehl+ritter and project director of TANZFONDS ERBE) presented the example of TANZFONDS ERBE which was awarded, in 2016, the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards in the category Education, Training and Awareness-Raising for promoting and preserving dance heritage.

The Ultimate Cookbook for Cultural Managers

A substantial part of the activity of contemporary artists, festivals, venues, touring and production companies, in the live music and performing arts encompasses cross-border cultural cooperation

Too often when working together on an international artistic programme, unexpected problems arise based on misunderstandings or wrong assumptions about European legislation and procedures ruling bureaucratic aspects needed for this international cooperation to be the best collaboration it can be.

In this What you didn’t know about Europe - The Ultimate Cookbook for Cultural Managers series we worked with legal experts with an in-depth understanding and knowledge of the sector to bring you a series of booklets designed to help you navigate these important procedures by explaining in an easy to read and understandable way what one should know and remember of each specific theme.
