The Meraner Musikwochen/Setttimane Musicali Meranesi was introduced in 1986 to celebrate the 150 th anniversary of the renowned spa town Merano. It gave impetus to the great tradition as a music town. Owing to Mild climate, the Mediterranean vegetation, the architecture of the Austro-Hungarian Empire reveals its history as traditional spa town in the heart of South Tyrol, in a Central European Region where two important cultures from North and South meet and a population with three different languages lives

Together organised by the Artistic Director, Andreas Cappello the festival starts with small high level ensembles, increasing every year by quality and audience. In 2002 the Festival becomes member of EFA and Italiafestival.
