Albert Edelman

Artistic Coordinator Concertgebouw Brugge & Chair of REMA – European Early Music Network 2019-22’

The arts give me boundless confidence in their power to connect, not just in the moment on and around a stage (however we want to interpret that word) but also across time and space. Through our cultural heritage we – artists, audience, thinkers, activists, politicians – can easily access centuries past, learn about the human condition, and approach the future with humility, optimism and creativity. If we have to wield any weapon, let it be the arts!

Albert Edelman is artistic coordinator at the Concertgebouw Brugge, Belgium. Building on his experience at the Utrecht Early Music Festival he is working on the future of the Historically Informed Performance Practice and classical music in general. Earlier this year he was elected president of the European Early Music Network, representing around 90 member organisations from 22 countries. Albert has worked as a translator and classical singer. Since his early youth he has aspired to a career as a professional tourist.
