Eduardo García Salueña (Gijón, Spain, 1982) is the Head of the Music Area of the FMCEyUP (Gijón city council), Artistic director of Gijón’s Early Music Festival (MúAX) from 2016 (also Technical director from 2013), and the coordinator of the book and CD music serie “Colección René de Coupaud”, focused on Asturian music heritage.
He has a degree in Musicology from the University of Oviedo, completing his PhD in 2014 on the analysis of progressive rock in Spain during the Transition years. He has made a research stay at the University of Surrey supervised by professor Allan Moore. He also has an intermediate degree in piano at Gijón’s Professional Conservatory of Music.
He has contributed papers to seminars and conferences of SEdeM, SIBE, IASPM and The Progect academic network. He has written articles for several journals and chapters for collective books. He published Música para la libertad in 2017, a revised and updated version of his doctoral thesis. He is also the editor of Rock en progresión. Sonidos del ayer, miradas del mañana, where he contributed with a chapter. He worked as a music critic for the newspaper La Nueva España between 2007-2012, and has written reviews for various ezines and online databases. He is a regular collaborator with the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra, both as a lecturer and as a writer of program notes.
Eduardo García Salueña has also developed and maintained an active career as an arranger and session keyboardist, both in studio and live. In 2013 he was awarded with the AMAS for the best Asturian keyboard player. His significant work as a composer includes two piano pieces recorded for Iliad. A grand piano extravaganza, a symphonic poem for pipe band, instrumental quintet and reciter, a duet for bassoon and piano (TrevCo Music Publishing), and the orchestral overture Pillars of Hercules (premiered at Jovellanos Theatre, Gijón, 2013).
