British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA)

United Kingdom

The British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA) was founded in 1969 and is the national network and development agency for arts festivals, representing some 80 members across the UK. BAFA members cover a broad swathe of the festivals industry, including individual single art-form and multi-arts festivals, festival groupings, individuals, universities and associated organisations including BBC Proms, Gwyl Machynlleth Festival, Cheltenham Festivals, Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, Ilkley Literature Festival, St Andrews Voices, and Ventnor Fringe. BAFA members work across a range of sizes and locations, ranging from very large organisations with significant staffing to voluntarily run festivals, and operate in a range of locations across England, Scotland and Wales, in rural and urban settings.  As well as supporting the development of its members through events and training, BAFA aims to act as the voice for the UK arts festivals sector, and does this by working with a range of national and international partners, to champion and support a sector whose extraordinary work plays a crucial but often under-valued role in our cultural ecology.
