THE SEASONS by Kristijonas Donelaitis Directed by Eimuntas Nekrošius A co-production of the Meno Fortas Company, the Teatro di Roma and the Union of European Theatres The new production of the great Lithuanian director Eimuntas Nekrošius with his company Meno Fortas will be based on the epic poem “The Seasons” by the Lithuanian writer Kristijonas Donelaitis. Kristijonas Donelaitis was born in 1714 in the country known as East Prussia. The name “Prussians” refers to the Western branch of the Baltic tribes, who since the prehistoric times have inhabited the area between the lower Vistula River, the Baltic Sea, and the Nemunas (Memel) rivers. “The Seasons” consist of four parts: “Joys of Spring”, ‘Summer Toils”, “Autumn Wealth” and “Winter Cares”. Written in hexameter, the poem depicts the natural setting of Lithuania Minor, its people, their work and customs. Focal points of the new performance: the fate of an extinct nation – global perspective, mythological cycle of man’s life.The poem has been translated into several European languages, including English and German. Beginning of rehearsals May 13th 2002 Dress rehearsal September 28th 2002 Opening night September 29th 2002 Number of actors : 15 to 20 The cost of the production is estimated for 172.200 € Of which the UTE is supporting 76.000 € And the Teatro di Roma 48.100 € ________ We search a co-producer for 48.100 € The co-producer who signs an agreement with the Meno Fortas Company and the UTE will host the shows for the cost price, without the beneficial margins.
