Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre calls for applications: 1 March deadline approaching

The Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre calls for applications for participation for its 2012 festival edition (5-15 October 2012) under the motto “NEW!”. It celebrates works by artists from all over the world, but priority will be given to emerging and mid career artists. NEW! is for artists who want to take risks and challenge new audiences. It is a voyage of discovery, an adventure for your artistic concepts. NEW! will be made up of two strands: INDOOR PERFORMANCES and STREET ART. Indoor performances will be programmed in traditional theatres and non-traditional venues, while Street Art will appear in public spaces around Tbilisi. For participation in the programme applicants need the following: submit application and DVD of a suggested performance. If the application is selected it will be a part of Tbilisi International programme of 2012, with the following support: • Venue; technical staff and equipment according to technical rider (subject to negotiations as usual); • Per-diems of 25 USD per person per day; hotel with breakfast for 3 nights; • Airport transfers; Special discount at Festival Café; Media support and publicity; Festival evenings in Festival club; And certainly - very warm and special audiences! Application for 2012 is open now! The deadline for applications is 1 March 2012. Notification to selected applications will be no later than 1 April 2012. Established in 2009, Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre aims to attract creative, challenging and innovative artists, from the Far East to the Far West. Tbilisi International brings them together in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, cherishing their artistic ideas and creating an unforgettable experience. The Festival is made for a full picture of status and tendencies in the global dramatic art to emerge. "Tbilisi International is a combiner, a link or a bridge between Theater of Europe and Theater of Asia.” The Festival runs every year from the end of September throughout October and is one of the major events in the international life of Georgia and not only - it is becoming one of the main performing arts events in Caucasia and the Black Sea countries. During the last three years Tbilisi International has hosted 36 companies from UK, Italy, Iran, Korea, Israel, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Armenia , Croatia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Sweden, Estonia, Austria, India, Croatia and etc. With more thousands of spectators, wide media coverage and the special atmosphere the Festival has begun to establish its reputation well beyond the borders of Georgia. The festival’s reputation has been built on the quality of its programme, with the work of major international directors and companies presented during the international programme and a wide ranging programme of work from all over Georgia in the Georgian Theatre Showcase. In 2011, the festival introduced a new strand to the programme to enable a focus on the work of innovative young and emerging artists, providing a platform to share work and artistic ideas. The festival wants to explore and showcase emerging artists who bring a different energy to theatre and would like to host in Tbilisi those artists who want to share their artistic vision.
