euro|topics becomes media partner of the EFA Jubilee

16 May 2012

The European Festivals Association (EFA) and euro|topics, the online platform providing a daily, up to date press review, have engaged in a media partnership. To promote trans-European discussion and to create new networks for cultural and political exchange is a joint mission of EFA and euro|topics. The partnership is an important step in EFA's quest to form a coalition of organisations dedicated to the process of transformation in Europe, one of the key aims of the so-called 'Bergen Agenda' to be set at the occasion of the Association's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 celebrated from 23-25 May in Bergen, Norway. The mission of euro|topics reads: “Diversity and uniformity are just as evident in Europe's headlines as they are in Europe itself. The euro|topics press review shows which topics are moving Europeans and reflects the great variety of opinions, ideas and emotions on those issues. Whether the topic is politics, the economy, society or culture, euro|topics takes a daily look at the European press and cites the most important voices. Because the question that interests us is: What does Europe think?” euro|topics: 28 Countries – 300 Media – 1 Press Review The euro|topics press review appears in three languages: German, English and French. The services provided by euro|topics are supported by a network of correspondents that stretches right across Europe. They sift through more than 300 newspapers, magazines and blogs in 28 countries (the EU plus Switzerland), select the most important commentaries, essays and reflections and translate the most cogent quotes. euro|topics has been making an important contribution to establishing a European public sphere since 2005. It aims to convey a realistic picture of national debates and discourse. To achieve this, articles are quoted from European media that are considered relevant for public opinion in the countries in question. euro|topics is a service provided by the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Germany. Since May 2008, n-ost Network for Reporting on Eastern Europe has produced the press review. EFA: 40 countries – 106 members – 1 festival network The European Festivals Association was founded in Geneva in 1952 upon the joint initiative of the eminent conductor Igor Markevitch and the great philosopher Denis de Rougemont. Since its foundation, the Association has grown from 15 festivals into a dynamic network representing more than 100 music, dance, theatre and multidisciplinary festivals, national festival associations and cultural organisations from about 40 (mainly European) countries. Furthermore, EFA has grown into a dynamic network with partners – sister festival organisations, cultural networks and political decision-making bodies – from all over the world. In 2012, EFA celebrates its Diamond Jubilee under the motto “60 Years On. Festivals and the World”. EFA join forces with a broad range of international partners to reflect on the present and future of arts festivals in the world – to look at the responsibility of festivals today to help shape the world tomorrow.
