EFA Jubilee across the world: a weekend of celebration coming up

15 June 2012

On 16 and 17 June 2012, the Diamond Jubilee of the European Festivals Association (EFA) is celebrated with three events in Bulgaria, Germany and Mexico. The Varna Summer International Music Festival and the Rheingau Musik Festival are dedicating their opening concerts to "EFA 60 Years On"; and Ennio Morricone’s "Notturno Passacaglia", composed at the occasion of the anniversary, is being performed in Mexico City. On 16 June, the Varna Summer International Music Festival dedicates the opening of its 86th edition to EFA’s jubilee with a concert by the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Francesco Lanzillotta. Previously, the festival hosted the EFA General Assembly and Conference in 2011 and the Atelier for Young Festival Managers in 2009. Also on 16 June 2012, the composition by Ennio Morricone “Notturno Passacaglia” travels on to Mexico City, after its world premier at the Vilnius Festival on 4 June. Clarinettist Darko Brlek and flautist Massimo Mercelli will perform together with the University Orchestra. Notturno Passacaglia was recorded for EFA’s film, “EFA 60 Years On” and will also be performed at the Emilia Romagna Festival on 14 September in 2012. On 17 June, the Rheingau Musik Festival and the European Festivals Association join celebrations: EFA Secretary General Kathrin Deventer is attending the Festival’s “Festakt”, before the 25th edition of the Rheingau Music Festival is officially opened on 23 June. Throughout 2012 EFA members join the celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee of the Association. Have a look at the list of events on the Jubilee website.
