Ljubljana Festival: Orchestra Academy and Master Classes in Slovenia

5 July 2012

The Ljubljana Festival is delighted to inform about the BRANIMIR SLOKAR ACADEMY – Orchestra Academy (Maribor International Orchestra 2012) and Master Classes in Slovenia. The Orchestra Academy is organised for the fourth time, starting on 12 July and ending on 4 August in Slovenia. In 2012 the project will bring together 350 musicians from 36 countries. The Branimir Slokar Academy emerged from the project “Connecting through music with Maribor International Orchestra 2012 – MIO2012”. The project provides an excellent education for orchestra musicians and future soloists with the most sought after pedagogues and world class musicians like Latica Honda-Rosenberg - violin, Martin Ostertag - cello, Božo Paradžik - double bass, Felix Renggli - flute, Emanuel Abbühl - oboe, François Benda - clarinet, Gustavo Nuñez - bassoon, Radovan Vlatković – french horn, Hans Gansch - trumpet, Branimir Slokar - trombone, Raymond Curfs - timpani, Peter Sadlo - percussion, Gregory Ahss - violin / concertmaster, Klaus Arp - conducting. In addition, the most outstanding soloists from Slovenia are collaborating as tutors to the orchestra. In 2012 the Maribor International Orchestra 2012 (75 musicians) and the two conductors, Klaus Arp (DE) and Živa Ploj Peršuh (SI), will again study two symphonic programmes and present them in concerts in Slovenia and on tour abroad. The chosen composers this year are Brahms, Haydn, Tchaikovsky, Rota, Stravinsky, Dvorak and two of the most famous Slovene composers, Uroš Krek and Lojze Lebič. As the European Union (EACEA - The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) is supporting the Academy, the co-organisers agreed that the programme is to introduce the European idea, the idea of unity and diversity. The star and soloist of this year is the internationally renowned trombonist Branimir Slokar. He has been involved in the project from the beginning and will be also an active professor of the master class for trombone. All participants of the master classes will crown their work with a final concert. The successful participants of the courses of conducting and concert master will perform at a concert with Maribor International Orchestra 2012. The concerts will take place within the European Capital of Culture – Maribor 2012 and the Festival Ljubljana. The participants of the Orchestra Academy 2012 have an honourable cultural mission – to present the European Capital of Culture – Maribor 2012 also abroad. Therefore, the young musicians from around the world will give concerts in Cividale del Friuli (Mittelfest), London (at the time of the Olympic Games) and the music festival Salceda de Caselas in Spain. The organisers of the Branimir Slokar Academy are: Association Glasbena matica Ljubljana (Slovenia), Institute Delavnica Maribor (Slovenia), Association BUM (Serbia), Interkultura (Macedonia), Club of Slovene students in Graz (Austria), European Capital of Culture – Maribor 2012 and Festival Ljubljana.
