Atelier BEIRUT 2013: application deadline approaching, first presenters confirmed

7 March 2013

The Atelier for Young Festival Managers 2013 is taking place in Beirut/Lebanon from 5-12 October 2013. While the application deadline is approaching, the programme of the Atelier BEIRUT 2013 is shaping: first mentors and presenters confirmed their participation, including Bernard Faivre d’Arcier, Hugo De Greef, Rose Fenton, Nele Hertling and Jonathan Mills. The sixth edition of the Atelier is the first in the Arab world; it is organised by the European Festivals Association (EFA) and the Beiteddine Art Festival. The Atelier for Young Festival Managers is EFA’s 7-day training platform addressed at emerging artistic festival directors. Applications have to be submitted by 31 March 2013. Mentors announced 45 young festival managers from all over the world will be selected to attend the Atelier. Under the coordination of Hugo De Greef (former EFA Secretary General, General Manager Bruges European Capital of Culture 2002, Founder and former Director Kaaitheater – Belgium), some ten presenters from all over the world – all renowned, trailblazing festival managers – will share their rich experiences with the participants. Four mentors have already confirmed their participation: Bernard Faivre d’Arcier (former long-standing Artistic Director of the Avignon Festival and President of the Lyon Biennial - France), Rose Fenton (Director Free Word, Co-Founder LIFT Festival, London – UK), Nele Hertling (Vice-Chair of the Academy of Arts Berlin - Germany), and Jonathan Mills (Festival Director and Chief Executive Edinburgh International Festival - UK). “Beirut, a city at the crossroads between East and West, was reborn 7 times from its ashes. This resilient capital is an Arab metropolis but nonetheless a contemporary European city. The Beiteddine Art Festival is at the heart of this interchange: It was born at times of war, and has grown against all odds into a spectacular cultural hub for the region. It offers a vibrant and unique platform for multicultural exchange and debate,” underlines Nora Joumblatt, President Beiteddine Art Festival.
