EFA/ECPNM Ars Nova

14 December 2004

At the initiative of the European Conference of Promoters of New Music (ECPNM), an associate member of EFA, and EFA, a new joint EFA – ECPNM working group on New Music has been organized in ZAGREB on 22 and 23 April 2005 in the framework of the 23rd MUSIC BIENNALE ZAGREB. Most important result: ARS NOVA continues! The working group on New Music will continue serving as a platform for discussions on new music and the production and commissioning of joint projects. At the invitation of the Music Biennale Zagreb who celebrated not only its 23rd edition of its bi-annual festival but also hosted the World Music Days 2005 of the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM), the more than 30 participants of the ARS NOVA working group had the unique opportunity to meet, network, gather and discuss with composers, organizers, artists, journalists, editors, cultural managers, colleagues and the lovers and supporters of New Music. About one hundred representatives, organizations and artists linked to New Music from 50 different countries worldwide have been present – an ideal framework to talk about the current situation of New Music, about its history, about its future and about concrete possibilities to collaborate and commission joint projects. The Zagreb Biennale programme 2005 has bristled with an attractive and stimulating programme of performances and events which all delegates have been invited to attend. Thanks to the wonderful organization of the Zagreb Biennale and its outstanding hospitality all participants enjoyed their stay in the capital of Croatia. It has been the fourth edition following previous meetings in Berlin in 2001, Amsterdam 2002 and Zagreb 2003. These networking events aim at bringing together cultural practitioners with an interest in Contemporary Music from across Europe in order to discuss - on the basis of lectures by attractive and well-known keynote speakers - experiences in contemporary music, theatre and dance. But in the first place, future ARS Nova meetings intend to increase opportunities for cooperation projects in the field of New Music. By focusing on the market of co-productions, ARS Nova meetings aim at being a platform and at the same time a starting point for artistic collaborations between different partners, organizers and festivals in Europe.
