From 18 June to 24 September, the first and oldest Bulgarian festival and one of the first in Europe - "Varna Summer" International Music Festival celebrates 90 years since its establishment. The festive anniversary will be officially marked at the opening of the festival, which will bring together lovers of classical music in Hall 1 of the Festival and Congress Center. EFA President Darko Brlek and EFA Secretary General a.i. Hugo De Greef, will attend the 90th anniversary of the first Bulgarian festival in Varna. Darko Brlek is also a soloist in the second concert of the festival program.

Exactly at 20:00 on June 18, the audience will be treated by a concert of the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Giancarlo De Lorenzo from Italy. On the programme is the well-established tradition, the Bulgarian Rhapsody "Vardar" by Pancho Vladigerov. This emblematic work was also performed at the first Summer Public Music Celebrations in 1926 and today is the musical emblem of the festival. It will be followed by Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra by Bulgarian composer acad. Vassil Kazandzhiev with soloist Miroslav Petkov – principal trumpet at The Royal Concertgebow Orchestra and the suite La Strada / The Road / by Nino Rota.

The next concert included in the module "Symphony and Chamber Music" is on June 19 at 19:00 at "Boris Georgiev" Varna City Art Gallery.  It launches a series of interesting chamber music events. The clarinetist Darko Brlek  and the Varna String Quartet "Dobri Hristov" featuring  Krassimir Shterev – violin, Evgenia Paskova - violin, Rumyana Petrova - viola and Vanya Nikolcheva - cello, will present works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

On June 19 in the City Art Gallery  the exhibition "Varna Summer as Seen by Rossen Donev" will be opened. One of the most respected Bulgarian photographers has prepared 21 posters with about a hundred photographs related to the last 21 years of the music festival. "I live from "Varna Summer " to "Varna Summer ", my time is spread and tailored to the festival.  For me the "Varna Summer" is my New Year”, says Rossen Donev and does not hide his happiness that he is able to communicate with his favorite art - music.
