The programme of the pilot edition of "Digital (R)Evolution: A Communication & New Technologies Training was closed on Saturday 25 January with inspiring participants’ presentations of toolkits on communication & new technologies applied to the festivals’ field, last moments of exchange, feedback and goodbyes.

The experience is over but what was learned and shared during these days will last forever. The engagement, openness and curiosity of all individuals present - participants, guest speakers and mentors alike – contributed highly to the knowledge on audience development, to reaching out to diverse communities in civil society, to citizenship building, to improve access to arts and culture, and to reflect on the role that digital tools and new technologies play in this process. It also provided the participants with a new network of peers and alumni of The Festival Academy that is dealing with these topics in a daily arts festivals practice, be it in the smallest festival or the biggest flagships.

One of the participants on the Training:

“The Training was such an interesting, intense and fun experience! I would have never thought that digital technology could generate so much passion and food for creativeness.” Lorenzo, from Italy/France

This pilot edition allowed to dive into the world of technology, a topic which was often tackled during the Ateliers for Young Festival Managers, but not in such a detailed and critical manner. This first edition paved the way to a new training series with the aim of further investigating the use of technology in the festivals’ context, and in a broader sense in the arts and culture.

The Festival Academy would like to thank once more deSingel International Arts Campus for having host the Training, as well as Kunsthal Extra City and Toneelhuis for the opportunity they gave to the participants to experience a bit of Antwerp’s arts scene.

And keep an eye open on the new open calls, soon to be announced!

The pilot edition of "Digital (R)Evolution: A Communication & New Technologies Training" took place between 22-25 January 2020, in Antwerp - Belgium. Organised in partnership with deSingel, this 4-day long training programme brought together 12 festival managers and artists coming from 11 different countries to critically reflect on the subject of digitalisation and the use of new technologies in the festivals’ field.
