Briefing on cultural committee at the European Parliament

Please find here below the summary of the briefing from the culture committe on March 15th and 16th at the European Parliament: The session on 14th March was dominated by a discussion of the EU’s information and communication strategy: The Commissioner responsible, Margot Wallstroem, was represented in the exchange of views with the parliamentarians by Jorge de Oliveira e Sousa, Director-General of DG Press and Communication. Moreover, Luis Francisco Herrero-Tejedor (EPP, Spain) presented his draft report on the implementation of the EU’s information and communication strategy. Of the other nine substantial items on the agenda, only one concerned culture expressly: A motion for resolution on the UNESCO convention on cultural diversity. Another item relevant to culture was the proposed directive on services in the internal market: Marie-Helene Descamps (EPP, France) presented her draft opinion, and the session on 15th March was dedicated to a hearing on this directive and the audiovisual media.
