Mittelfest calls for under-30 artists and companies from Mitteleuropa

Nine projects that will be staged from 18 to 21 May 2023

The doors of Mittelfest are once again opening to the new generation of artists from Mitteleuropa who, thanks to Mittelyoung, will be called upon to narrate the inevitable - the theme chosen by artistic director Giacomo Pedini for the 2023 edition - through theatre, music, dance and circus performances.

On 15 December, Mittelyoung international open call officially opens: under-30 artists and companies from 27 countries will be able to submit their projects and be selected to form the 2023 programme (3 theatre, 3 music and 3 dance shows) that will be staged from 18 to 21 May.

"In its third edition, Mittelyoung is by now an organic event of Mittelfest," emphasises artistic director Giacomo Pedini, "a section of the festival with a strong and innovative identity that remains faithful to its mission, which is to offer actual opportunities and real support to artists under 30".

The international and cross-border positioning, a fundamental element of Mittelfest DNA, remains firm, thanks to which Mittelyoung confirms its close collaborations with Austria and Slovenia. And so the first day of the young festival will be staged in Slovenia, in the Small Hall of the SNG Nova Gorica.

"This is a new step in the path towards GO!2025," said President Roberto Corciulo, " an appointment that will see Mittelfest at the forefront of the actors of Friulian culture engaged in the planning of a truly unrepeatable year".

Also confirmed is the collaboration between Mittelfest and the Carinthischer Sommer Music Festival, which will offer the opportunity for an artist or an ensemble selected for Mittelyoung 2023 to also perform on the stage of the Carinthischer Sommer Music Festival in July or August next year. In turn, Mittelfest will select a show from the new under-30 project of the Austrian festival, to be included in the Inevitable programme in July 2023.

Mittlelyoung open call, which can be downloaded from the website mittelfest.org, closes on 15 February and is addressed to artists from Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine.

Following the success of the 2022 novelty, circus performances will also be admitted: works submitted in the multidisciplinary/circus category, if selected, will be included among the theatre, music or dance titles, depending on the nature of the show.

All applications will be examined by the group of curators under 30 created thanks to the collaboration between Mittelfest and a number of institutions and training bodies in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
