Bruckner Festival Linz 2001- September 9th - 29th - MUSIC.DANCETHEATER.AND

14 May 2001

The motto is "DIVE IN" - and that means with all your senses. The subtitle is new, too. MUSIK.DANCETHEATER.AND is intended to show that the Bruckner Festival Linz has set out along new paths. Posthof first joined the Bruckner Festival with two magnificent dance theater productions in 2000. This successful program feature is to be included again in 2001. The "AND" in the title shows that there is room for many things in the Bruckner Festival. There are exhibitions, a children's program and, supplemented over the course of the year, the "Clouds of Sound", Ars Electronica, the programs of the Landestheater, galleries, Phönix Theater, and singular art projects, which together make up the Culture Month September under the umbrella "linz.kunst.2001." This means that a new festival format is emerging, developing a radiance far beyond Linz and reinforcing the image of a city, which has long since overtaken other comparable cities with its cultural activities. Major Orchestras and Conductors MUSIC is not in the first position in the title by chance. Concerts still form the core of the Bruckner Festival - starting this time on September 9th with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic, conducted by Alan Gilbert, with both Schubert and Bruckner's 4th Symphonies. The latter will also be broadcast as the "Classical Cloud of Sound" in the Danube Park. Franz Welser-Möst will conduct the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra with Mahler's "Symphony of a Thousand" in the New Cathedral. Under the direction of Herbert Blomsedt, the Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig comes to St. Florian with Schubert (7) and Bruckner (9). Sir Roger Norrington will make a guest appearance with his Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, newly enlightening Bruckner's "6th" this time. Conducted by its future head conductor Dennis Russel Davies, the Bruckner Orchestra will perform Bruckner's "7th." The festival will culminate on September 29th with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle with Symphonies No. 1 and 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Concert Performance: The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny The Bruckner Festival 2001 concert performance opera is dedicated to Kurt Weill, who experienced a veritable renaissance due to the 100th anniversary of his birth in 2000. "Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny", the second great success of the artistic partnership Brecht/Weill following the "Three-Penny Opera", led to one of the greatest theater scandals in Germany at its premier in 1930. The performance is in the capable hands of the Bruckner Orchestra, under the direction of H.K. Gruber. The 2001 program also includes another church opera. There will be four performances of Benjamin Britten's "The Prodigal Son" by the Orchester Sonare Linz, conducted by Thomas Kerbl, in the Ursuline Church. Organ The Bruckner Festival focus on organ works will be continued with concerts by Rudolf Jungwirth, Daniel Roth and Wolfgang Zerer. Ensembles On two days, the Hungarian-Austrian brass ensemble "Pro Brass" brings a production on the theme of film music to the stage, entitled "Dream Factory - Soundtracks of the Century." Viennese Virtuosi, consisting of members of the Vienna Philharmonic play works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and others in the unusual formation of string quartet and wind instruments. The Arnold Schoenberg Choir sings choir works by Schubert and Schoenberg. Children A "Music Workshop" for children is planned - on a Saturday this time - with the wonderful musicians from "Trilogy." "My name is Bond. Wolfgang Amadeus Bond ..." is the mysterious title of the program.
