Queen Elisabeth International Competition celebrates its fiftieth anniversary

5 June 2001

Created in 1951 at the initiative of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth of Belgium, and following on from the Eugène Ysaÿe Competition, this competition very quickly became one of the leading international compositions for violonists, pianists, composers and, more recently, singers. The Queen Elisabeth Competition owes its reputation to its extremely strict regulations, but also to its outstanding juries composed of performers and educators of international renown. For its 50th anniversary a book, cd boxes and a DVD presenting 50 years of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium are available. During 2001 concerts dedicated to the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium will take place all over the world.
