The Reykjavík Arts Festival 2006
4 January 2006
The 2006 Reykjavík Arts Festival will be held from May 12th to June 2nd. We are proud to announce that this edition marks the 20th Festival from its 1970 inception. This year, music will be especially prominent on our programme, and it can be said that this festival will focus on its co-operation with the exceptional culture institutions in Iceland which from the beginning have been among the pillars of the Arts Festival, among these the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, The Icelandic Opera, The Reykjavik City Theatre and The Iceland Dance Company. The Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra and the Caput Ensemble will also feature prominently on the 2006 programme bill. The previous two Festivals have focused chiefly on one particular art genre and this will also be the case in 2006, although other art fields will not be neglected. Apart from the music, theatre and dance will be amply represented and several cultural institutions will play an important part. Thus, the National Museum, the Reykjavík City Library, the Reykjavík Museum of Photography and the Reykjavík Art Museum are all working on new and interesting projects for the Festival programme. Detailed information on the upcoming Festival´s programme will be given at a press meeting and published on this website early in 2006.
