MEETING - THE FUTURE WITHOUT MUSIC MILAN 20 FEBRUARY 2006 MORNING (10.30 – 1.00 PM) Corso San Gottardo, 42/A “La Verdi” Foundation, Symphonic Orchestra and Choir of Milan AFTERNOON (2.30 – 7.00 PM) Largo Mahler (corner of Corso San Gottardo) Auditorium of Milan Dear friends, this is to inform you that following the serious crisis caused by the cuts of the FUS we have decided to organize a congress in order to reflect about the present situation of the musical institutions that dedicate most of their activities to classical and contemporary music. More than 150 Italian musical institutions (ruled by the Title III of the law n° 800) have confirmed their support. The afternoon session will be attended by the Minister of Culture Rocco Buttiglione, and the MIP Piero Fassino, Sandro Bondi, Francesco Rutelli, Bruno Tabacci and the President of RAI Claudio Petruccioli. The Director of the Department for Performing Arts Salvatore Nastasi will attend the morning session. The first session will be opened by the reading of a document we have drafted in agreement with the directors of the main Italian musical institution. Dr. Salvatore Nastasi will give a speech about the present situation of Music (after the cuts on FUS, national Lottery, regions and local authorities) and what are the measures to be taken in the upcoming future. It is clear that the number of participants will show how strongly the world of classical and contemporary music is ready to campaign for its acknowledgement. This is why we think it is very important not only the participation of directors of the musical institutions involved, but also the presence of musicians and operators (collaborators, employees and connoisseurs) in the field of music.
