LUCERNE FESTIVAL, SOMMER 2001 - The KKL Goes Up in Flames

17 July 2001

The KKL Goes Up in Flames A Homage to Prometheus by Groupe F A poetic fire spectacle for the LUCERNE FESTIVAL, SOMMER 2001 opening on Wednesday, August 15, 2001, 10 p.m. In exactly a month, SOMMER 2001, the LUCERNE FESTIVAL, will begin under the heading of Creation – more than 80 concerts with classical, contemporary, and world music, a symposium, round-table discussions, Children’s Corner events and a Long Night of Creation. Right at the beginning, there will be a true high-light to enjoy: after the opening concert, French fire experts of Groupe F will present a poetic fire spectacle: The KKL Goes Up in Flames, thus the title of a homage to Prometheus, the divine rebel, who in Greek mythology brought man fire and thus provided a decisive precondition of civilization and culture. Scenario of the spectacle: as soon as the last notes of the opening concert have faded – Beethoven’s Geschöpfe des Prometheus – lightning will strike Pilatus and a line of fire will race over the entire lake basin and let the Culture and Convention Centre go up in flames. Prometheus still brings mankind new fire – to make our cold world come alive once again. The KKL will become a symbol of culture created by man. Already in 1992, Groupe F illuminated the closing celebration of the Olympic Games in Barcelona, and their breath-taking fireworks around the Eiffel Tower during the Millenium celebrations brought world renown to the French artists gathered around Christophe Berthonneau. Free admission The best sites to watch from are on the right lake shore: on the quay, at the hotels and restaurants with a view of the KKL. Alternate date in case of bad weather: Thursday, August 16, 2001.
