The Communication A European Agenda for culture in a globalizing world

15 June 2007

On 10 May 2007, the European Commission adopted a Communication on a European Agenda for culture in a globalising world. This Communication is a significant policy document that affirms the central role of culture in the process of European integration. It also aims at developing a common cultural agenda for Europe and for its relations with third countries. To this end, and after an extensive consultation exercise with the cultural sector, the Commission has identified three sets of objectives (promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue; promotion of culture as a catalyst for creativity in the framework of Lisbon Strategy for growth and jobs; and promotion of culture as a vital element in the Union's international relations). For these objectives to be widely shared and implemented, the Commission suggests establishing new partnerships and methods for cooperation with the various stakeholders, in particular the Member States, also associating the civil society and the European Parliament. Please click here to find the text of this Communication, together with a Commission staff working paper presenting the important contribution that other community programmes and policies make to culture, a communication of José Manuel Barroso and a list of frequently asked questions.
