Gaudeamus becomes Music Center the Netherlands

7 February 2008

On January 1, 2008, Gaudeamus will merge in a single large music institute in which classical, contemporary, jazz and pop music will all be incorporated. The name of the new organization is Music Center the Netherlands (MCN). Besides Gaudeamus, the other merging partners are Donemus, 'De Kamervraag', the combined jazz organizations and the Dutch Rock and Pop Institute. The activities of Gaudeamus will be continued and expanded in the Contemporary section of MCN. Thus you will again be able to look forward to a new edition of the International Gaudeamus Music Week. Likewise, the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition will also live on. National and international promotion, and balancing supply and demand - these are the primary goals of the new institute and thus also of the Contemporary section. With a renewed website and a new Agenda we aim at an even better presentation of contemporary music for both the Dutch and foreign markets. The unique collection of scores and audio material of the Gaudeamus library will become part of the Music Information Center (MIC) of the MCN. The MIC will be the primary information center for music in the Netherlands, with an extended collection of pop, jazz and contemporary music. Close contact with others in this field is essential for MCN. Even more than before, our staff will contact and consult you. We will intensify our work as advisers for composers, musicians, ensembles, programmers and podium consultants. And for those interested in learning more, this contact can lead to participation in new courses offered by MCN. www.muziekcentrumnederland.nl We look forward to meeting you in 2008!
