LUCERNE FESTIVAL, Piano 2001: General Programme and Workshop

29 October 2001

From Clavichord to Modern Concert Grand Pianos Lecture with Ulrike-Verena Habel, harpsichord The LUCERNE FESTIVAL, PIANO has defined itself, from the very beginning, as a piano festival offering space to all keyboard instruments (clavis = key). It focuses on all music instruments that bring forth sounds if you press a key – the clavichord as much as the Baroque harpsichord, the pianoforte of Viennes classicism as much as the modern grand piano, or the organ. Even electronic keyboards belong here. In the sense of a general programme complementing the key concerts, German harpsichord player Ulrike-Verena Habel, nowadays domiciled in Lucerne, will present her keyboard instruments built according to famous historic models. Admission free Playing Music on Historical Keyboard Instruments The workshop with Ulrike-Verena Habel is designed for students of music and laypersons interested in this type of music (including children). It offers students an opportunity to get to know historical keyboard instruments. Selected scores are to show how strongly the specific features of an instrument will influence and direct a good performance and good playing. Music students are invited to actively participate in this workshop.
