30 July 2008

The JakArt@2008 Festival runs from 31 July until 5 August 2008. Coinciding with the Annual General Meeting of AAPAF (Association of Asian Performing Arts Festivals) JakArt also hosts a general conference which will explore “The Relevance and Importance of the Arts & Culture in shaping the 21st Century” with a specific section dedicated to examining and exploring the role that festivals and cultural organizations have to play in this context. For the entire month of August JakArta2008 will draw attention to the plight of the Arts & Culture in Indonesia. This year’s festival is centered around If (Imaginary Festival). If is a statement, a conceptual festival were imaginary events take place. We have been busy working on exploring the possibilities of collaboration with the local and national media and other organizations which we deem as vital partners for the success of If. The programme of JakArta2008 will also include: • The trademark JakArt programming where real events take place all over Jakarta. • A combination of the conceptual and the real. This year’s festival has a theme: “Forbidden, Forgotten, Forsaken” and a motto: “Reality begins where Fantasy ends”.
