The Arts Festivals' Declaration's journey continues: Signing Ceremony in Liverpool
6 November 2008
The Arts Festivals' Declaration on Intercultural Dialogue is continuing its journey: After signing ceremonies in Slovenia (Ljubljana), Estonia (Tallinn), Norway (Oslo), Turkey (Antalya), again Slovenia (Brezice) and the most recent ceremony in Belgium (Ghent) the Declaration now arrived in Great Britain - Liverpool. On 23 October 2008, more then 50 festivals and actors from the cultural sector, including Liverpool 2008 European Capital of Culture, signed the Declaration in the framework of the Annual Conference of BAFA (British Arts Festivals Association) to commit to the objectives laid down in the text in order to enhance intercultural dialogue. And the journey goes on! On 17 November, the Declaration is heading to one of its most important destinations: Paris, where EFA – together with European Commissioner for Culture Ján Figel' and 20 major European festivals – will conclude the unique project in a festive ceremony, underlining the amazing success of the Declaration. The event is embedded in the closing conference of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue entitled "New Perspectives for Intercultural Dialogue in Europe". Jointly with Mr Figel', the European Festivals Association will be rewarded for its achievements regarding intercultural dialogue. A concluding chapter – the epilogue – will be added to the Declaration stressing the strength of arts and culture and in particular festivals to enhance intercultural dialogue and confirming commitment also beyond 2008. EFA will report back and share this important moment! Find out more about the Declaration here.
