“Imagine a new world”: European Commission launches photo competition

15 July 2009

In the framework of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation (EYCI) 2009, the European Commission launched the “Imagine a new world” photo competition at the beginning of June 2009. Professional and amateur photographers of all ages from across the EU are invited to participate. Imagination is the faculty through which we encounter everything. Things that we touch, see and hear converge into a "picture" via our imagination. Imagination helps provide meaning to experience and understanding to knowledge; it is a fundamental facility through which we make sense of the world. Under the motto “Imagine a new world” the competition invites professional and amateur photographers, photography students and all other talents to “dig deep” in their imagination and provide an original work where they express their vision of a “new world”. Inspiration could be found in any of the following sectors (adapted from the goals of the Year): • Meaning of creativity and innovation for our personal, social or economic development • Education in all ages • Cultural diversity • Information and communication technologies • Mathematics, science and technology • Creativity at work and in companies • Innovation, creativity and sustainable development • Creative industries including design A prestigious jury will select the winners who will receive prizes in photographic equipment and trips to EU cities. The deadline to submit the photos is 31 August 2009. Find out more about how to enter the competition and the selection process on the dedicated website at www.imagine2009.eu.
