Stresa Festival heading for weekend full of concerts

30 July 2010

The international festival Settimane Musicali di Stresa – known as Stresa Festival – is running from 8 May to 5 September. “Visions is the word inspiring the 49th edition of Stresa Festival. It has been chosen to recall sound constructions, whether slender or mighty, rational or irrationally creative, harmonious or knowingly dissonant, stylistically coherent or eclectic, dutiful or desecrating. They are ancient buildings of the times when the music to be performed at our Festival was composed.,” says the festival’s President Giovanni Medeot. The weekend is approaching and for the Stresa Festival it is a weekend full of concerts! On Friday, July 30 and on Saturday, July 31 Alban Gerhardt will perform Bach's Cello suites in the terrific Hermitage S. Caterina del Sasso (sold out both nights) while on Sunday, August 1 in the Chiesa Vecchia in Belgirate La Colombina will perform the a cappella psalms Ad Vesperas by Tomás Luis de Victoria. Next week one unique, not-to-be-missed, event, on Tuesday, August 3, in the Church Madonna di Campagna in Verbania. The ensemble Cappella della Pietà de’ Turchini, conducted by Antonio Florio, will honour Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, three-hundred years after his birth, executing his beautiful Stabat Mater. The programme will be completed by two Salve Regina, one by Pergolesi himself, the other by Orazio Benevoli. All updated information on www.stresafestival.eu
