For four days, the Lucerne Culture and Convention Center (KKL), the acclaimed complex by architect Jean Nouvel that bowed in 1999, will become a meeting place and forum for discussions on «Art.Space»: the close and essential of the arts and the spaces they exist in. Participants will include opening lecturer Gerard Mortier, and over the course of five roundtable discussions, prominent representatives of the arts, architecture and cultural management including architects Arata Isozaki, Jacques Herzog and Nouvel, acoustician Russell Johnson, and arts administrators such as Jane Moss, Lincoln Center and Michael Lynch, Sydney Opera House. In addition, attendees will have plenty of time to discover and enjoy the culture and town of Lucerne and its magnificent surroundings. The historic old town, the picturesque lake with its broad promenades, the grandeur of the Swiss Alps as a backdrop, excellent restaurants and hotels, all will combine to make this ISPA congress a truly unique event. ISPA is a non-profit organization founded in 1949 with headquarters in New York; currently comprising of approximately 600 members from 50 countries: artistic directors, business managers, art managers, concert organizers and theater personnel; representatives of festivals, music competitions, music agencies and departments of culture, all dedicated to communication, cultural exchange and promoting all aspects of the performing arts. In addition to its annual conference in New York, ISPA sponsors a rotating international conference held, most recently, in Sydney, and previously in Berlin, Vancouver, Stockholm, Jerusalem and Birmingham. It’s no surprise that ISPA has chosen the festival city of Lucerne for this year's international congress.
