4th IMC World Forum on Music: the music world to convene in Tallinn (26 Sep – 1 Oct 2011)

Paris/Bonn/Tallinn – April 15, 2011. The International Music Council, the European Music Council and the Estonian Music Council are pleased to announce the 4th IMC World Forum on Music to take place in Tallinn, September 26 – October 1, 2011, under the title “Music and Social Change”. The event will be staged in close collaboration with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Tallinn will play host to the IMC World Forum on Music during the year in which the city celebrates the title of European Culture Capital 2011. Tallinn‘s buzzing cultural life will treat forum participants to an exciting artistic and social program. The IMC World Forum on Music is a global knowledge-building platform on music and society in the 21st century. During the forum a variety of topics will be explored from diverse perspectives: cultural, political and economical. The IMC World Forum on Music is considered one of IMC’s main contributions to setting the stage for the free celebration of music in the world. The 2011 IMC World Forum on Music will focus on five areas which are of crucial importance to the world of music: • Music as a tool for social change • Current challenges and opportunities for music education • Music distribution and export • Music and development • Youth: informal spaces By seeking synergies across different sectors, this high-level forum will provide exceptional opportunities for all participants from different fields to engage in serious debates on current key issues. The work sessions during the Forum will be presented in a variety of formats: panel sessions with invited speakers, workshops, round table discussions and project presentations. The International Music Council (IMC) is the world peak organisation dedicated to promoting musical diversity and musical rights. The European Music Council is a regional group of the IMC and serves its members by advocating for the societal and political significance of musical diversity in Europe. The Estoian Music Council is a member of the IMC/EMC; its mission is to advocate and appraise Estonian music in all its forms of expression. In the framework of the Forum, IMC members will also gather for the 34th General Assembly. Likewise, the EMC will also hold its Annual Meeting of members in Tallinn.
