EUROPEAN MusMA ATELIER* for contemporary composers and performers in Granada

8 June 2011

MusMA”, Music Masters on Air: European Broadcasting Festival, is an international collaboration project of some 10 major European festivals initiated by the Flanders Festival Brussels. MusMA was brought to life in the framework of the project “FestLab for Creativity and Innovation” of the European Festivals Association (EFA) in 2009. From 27 until 30 June 2011, the first EUROPEAN MusMA ATELIER* for contemporary composers and performers takes place in Granada. This year's MusMA Atelier will be set in the magnificent and inspiring surroundings of the Alhambra in Granada where workshops and discussions can be held in the auditorium Manuel da Falla and compositions performed in the concert halls, all within easy walking distance. The Festival Internacional de Musica y Danza de Granada invites to the EUROPEAN MusMA ATELIER* for contemporary composers and performers (27-20 June; detailed schedule on request) and to the SPECIAL MusMA DAY on the 30 June with a press conference, showcase, forum and a round table. MusMA acts as the key to be used to open contemporary music to the new public. The EXCHANGE between composers and performers function as a starting point; the MusMA pieces will be considered in the framework of the master classes and is sure to raise subsequently fascinating observations and thought-provoking discussions for the programmers. Master Classes, forums and concerts of new commissioned MusMA pieces are planned during the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada. It will be like a summit with participants from all four corners of the contemporary classical music world in attendance. Composers will have the opportunity to meet the pianists, performers can learn more about the history of the composition they will be playing and radio representatives and festival directors will design new formats to open the ears and minds of the audience. The cultural, academic and media (broadcasters) sectors will attend the MusMA Atelier and we will have representatives coming from Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Portugal, Serbia, Belgium, Turkey, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland as well as from the UK, Germany, France and Switzerland. This year each of the composers has been commissioned by their respective festival to compose a piece for piano in the frame of “Liszt and Landscape” and a selection of five pieces will be performed at each festival by renowned local pianists.
